Do you have a studio?
I have found that backdrops and studio lighting really aren’t my thing. I am in my element when I’m on location with a client. Even if you go to the same location with a new client, there is always something different. The lighting, colors of the trees, grass, buildings, etc…everything is different. And using what is out there is what I’m all about. I don’t want to provide cookie cutter images for everyone. I want to offer truly unique and personalized portraiture. One of my favorite pictures is of a newborn baby laying on her shelf in between baby books and other things. Several years from now she and her parents will see that picture and wonder how she was ever that small. Those are the images I want to capture.
What kind of lighting do you use?
I prefer natural lighting. I do have a few external flashes (speedlights) and a couple of studio lights (strobes), but natural lighting is what really brings out my creativity. I love the color natural light provides.
What should I wear?
It depends on where your session is going to be. Natural settings pair well with solids and earthy tones. Bright solids, patterns, layers and accessories look great in urban locations. Here a few more suggestions:
- Children – avoid shirts with writing and letters, solids, bright colors and patterns are great…hats and sunglasses are cute, too!
- Newborns and Babies – diapers and birthday suits are perfect…any pieces of clothing or accessories that have meaning…favorite toys
- Maternity – jeans, flowy dresses, anything that’s curve hugging and will show off that cute little baby bump!
- Couples and Families – coordinated outfits go well together…colors in the same family such as light blues and dark blues
And if you aren’t sure, bring a few outfits with you and we can decide together what looks best!
Since you don’t have a studio, where can we have our session?
I have several places in the Texarkana area that I use for sessions. I’m also willing to meet you at your house and take pictures there. I will be happy to offer location suggestions to help create the look you are wanting.
Can I bring someone with me?
Of course! I find this is especially helpful when taking senior portraits. Having your best friend with you can not only help with keeping your hair looking great, they can also help with getting you to loosen up and have a good time. Trust me, I’m having a great time and so should you!!
